Hi Reader,
Welcome to The Sunday Shift!
As we welcome spring this Sunday in March, I find myself thinking about renewal and growth. That's why next month, we'll be diving deep into the power of curiosity, a perfect companion for this season of new beginnings.
Think about it: When was the last time you approached a situation with complete openness? No preconceptions, no assumptions, just pure wonder?
⚡️ 1 Habit
The beginner's mind practice
This week, choose one familiar activity and approach it with fresh eyes:
- Ask "what if?" about a routine you take for granted.
- Notice three new things about your daily commute or workspace.
- Question one assumption you've been making about a person or situation.
Try this today: Before your next meeting or conversation, take 30 seconds to silently ask yourself, "What am I assuming I already know about this situation or person? What might I discover if I set those assumptions aside?" Notice how this small reset changes your experience.
Why it works: Releasing assumptions creates space for discovery.
📖 1 Story
How a beginner's mind transformed instantly
Recently, a new client shared an insight creating the needed a-ha.
We were talking through a career decision, something they'd been stuck on for months. They were approaching it the way most of us do: weighing the pros and cons, trying to find the “right” answer, staying inside the box of what felt responsible and expected.
Then they paused and said: "You know what I realized? I’ve been trying to solve this like it’s a math problem. What if this is an invitation to imagine something new?"
That was their moment. The shift.
They had been looking at their situation with the same lens over and over. And the moment they dropped the need to get it right and stepped into "what if?" new possibilities appeared.
They gave themselves permission to explore—not to fix, not to decide—and to be curious again.
That one shift opened the door to clarity. They didn’t find all of the answers, but they created the space to see differently.
And that’s what curiosity does. It moves us from stuck to sparked. From pressure to possibility.
🎯 1 Focus
Identify your curiosity blockers
This week, notice what stops your natural curiosity:
- Is it the need to appear knowledgeable?
- Fear of looking foolish?
- The efficiency of staying in familiar territory?
Remember: The gateway to curiosity is often acknowledging what we don't know.
Hit reply and let me know. I’d love to hear (and I promise, I’m listening).
Coming in April: We'll explore three powerful curiosity practices that have transformed how my clients approach challenges and discover opportunities others miss. You won't want to miss these practical tools for seeing your world with fresh eyes.
See you next Sunday.
