THE SUNDAY SHIFT: Watch the company you keep

Hi Reader,

Welcome to The Sunday Shift!

This past Monday, I started the week in my zone of genius, surrounded by hundreds of coaching colleagues at a professional conference. It was educational, inspiring, and filled me up in ways I didn't even know I needed.

As an introvert, I set a goal to connect with at least ten people. In the past, at other industry events, I'd find one familiar face and hover nearby. But this time, something clicked. It was different and I felt in my element. I had a stack of new business cards, met people I've known virtually for years, and even introduced myself to the keynote speaker after her powerful live coaching session. The vulnerability, the wisdom. Wow! It was electric.

By the time I got in my car for the two-plus-hour ride home, I felt energized, aligned, and completely in flow. So many creative juices were flowing and I felt unstoppable.

And then the rest of the week happened.

Let's just say the vibe shifted—drastically.

By Thursday, and especially Friday, I was tapped out. My mood dipped. My clarity blurred. The pace felt off. I spent little time on what I wanted to do. And spent needed time supporting a loved one navigating a painful health challenge. Something I care deeply about, and also something that's emotionally exhausting.

I found myself pulled into disruption and doing "have to" things. People I love deeply, but interactions that drain my energy.

When you experience what aligned energy feels like, you become even more aware of what pulls you away from it. It's not a judgment, but rather a discernment to recognize what's working for and against your needs.

For me, it was a day-to-day shift where I quickly noticed when I felt like me and when I didn't.

This is an observation that teaches you to value the people and environments that lift you, and to step back from those that don't. You realize protecting your energy is essential, not selfish.

With this in mind, I'll be making some adjustments where I create boundaries to do what I need and want to do to care for my loved one and balance what I need to stay in my creative zone of genius flow state.

How about you?

Ideas to Ponder

  • Who brings out your most energized, aligned self?
  • What environments help you feel expansive vs. contracted?
  • Where are you spending time out of love, obligation, or habit, and at a cost to your peace?

🎯 1 Focus This Week

Pay attention to your energy after you leave a room, a meeting, or a conversation.

Do you feel lighter? Inspired? Grounded?

Or do you feel depleted? Frustrated? Disconnected?

You don’t need to make a sweeping decision. Just notice. Because the more you notice, the more you can choose intentionally. And that choice? It’s your power.

I believe you are the most powerful leader you’ll ever know. One small shift, Reader, will help you believe it, too.

To making bold moves for a life well lived,

Jenn

P.S. If this reminded you of someone who needs to protect their energy a little more fiercely, forward this to them. Sometimes just naming it makes all the difference.

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #030 - Why do we focus on what's wrong?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! You are not your shortcomings. So why do we spend so much energy focusing on them? I sent a beta version of my new 12 Principles of Self-Leadership Assessment to about 30 people—friends, former colleagues, and new connections in my entrepreneurial world. All high-achieving, successful professionals. And then my phone starts lighting up: “This question hit me hard.” “The report looks as polished as the big names.” “Holy sh*t… I feel like a failure.” “I...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #029 - What does bold feel like to you?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! I’m writing this from a small, bustling café in Watch Hill, glass of chilled white wine in hand, my husband across from me, and the (adult) kids wandering the shops. We’re on vacation, and yet my mind can’t help but come back to something I’ve been building. “I’m building The Bold Revolution,” I say out loud. He listens, then gently reminds me how hard building a business is. He doesn’t say this in a discouraging way; it’s in a way that says I see the...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #028 - Are you holding someone back?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! It’s Monday evening and I’m reading an article on breakthroughs. One woman shared a story about her judgment toward her friend group. An elite, extreme group of runners who train and compete at levels she couldn’t imagine. Her thought? “Why spend so much time pushing yourself that far? Take a break. Have fun. Add some joy.” Then she had a breakthrough. She realized her judgment wasn’t about them at all. It wasn’t because they didn’t hang out with her or...
