THE SUNDAY SHIFT: It's been a "ruff" week

Hi Reader,

Welcome to The Sunday Shift!

This past week was heavy.

We made the heartbreaking decision to put our beagle, Augustus Knoll (“Augie”), down, just three days after his 14th birthday. He was family. For my kids, who are 21 and almost 19, this was their first real love and, now, their first real loss.

The house feels emptier. Our hearts definitely do. The presence he commanded, the unconditional love he gave and we returned. It’s hard to put into words. It was simply time.

It might seem strange to share something so personal in a space that’s also professional. But life is made up of these moments. Loss is inevitable. And how we navigate it often reveals the deepest parts of ourselves.

Clarity is rarely easy.

Augie had been unwell for a while. All the signs of aging were there and accelerating. His health, and importantly, his dignity, became a near daily family conversation.

Making the decision was stressful. It drained our energy. Because even when you know what needs to be done, it doesn’t make it easier. In fact, sometimes sitting in indecision—second-guessing, hoping for a different sign, bargaining with the reality you already see—only makes it harder.

When we finally decided, there was grief, of course. But also a sense of relief. A calm knowing that this was the right next step, as hard as it was.

That’s the thing about clarity. It doesn’t erase the pain, but it gives you a place to stand. A direction to face, and a next step to take.

Ideas to Ponder

  • Where are you carrying stress simply because you haven’t made the decision you already know is right?
  • What would it feel like to move out of waiting and into clarity, even if it’s hard?
  • How much more energy might you reclaim if you stopped second-guessing?

🎯 1 Focus This Week

Notice where you’re stuck in indecision.

Pick one small place (personal or professional) and get clear. Make the choice. Trust yourself.

Clarity isn’t always comfortable, but it is always freeing.

I believe you are the most powerful leader you’ll ever know. One small shift, Reader, will help you believe it, too.

To bold moves ahead,

Jenn

P.S. If this reminded you of someone navigating a tough decision, forward it to them. Sometimes knowing we’re not alone makes all the difference.

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #030 - Why do we focus on what's wrong?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! You are not your shortcomings. So why do we spend so much energy focusing on them? I sent a beta version of my new 12 Principles of Self-Leadership Assessment to about 30 people—friends, former colleagues, and new connections in my entrepreneurial world. All high-achieving, successful professionals. And then my phone starts lighting up: “This question hit me hard.” “The report looks as polished as the big names.” “Holy sh*t… I feel like a failure.” “I...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #029 - What does bold feel like to you?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! I’m writing this from a small, bustling café in Watch Hill, glass of chilled white wine in hand, my husband across from me, and the (adult) kids wandering the shops. We’re on vacation, and yet my mind can’t help but come back to something I’ve been building. “I’m building The Bold Revolution,” I say out loud. He listens, then gently reminds me how hard building a business is. He doesn’t say this in a discouraging way; it’s in a way that says I see the...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #028 - Are you holding someone back?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! It’s Monday evening and I’m reading an article on breakthroughs. One woman shared a story about her judgment toward her friend group. An elite, extreme group of runners who train and compete at levels she couldn’t imagine. Her thought? “Why spend so much time pushing yourself that far? Take a break. Have fun. Add some joy.” Then she had a breakthrough. She realized her judgment wasn’t about them at all. It wasn’t because they didn’t hang out with her or...
