THE SUNDAY SHIFT: The quiet strength of conviction

Hi Reader,

Welcome to The Sunday Shift!

Let me start with a rooftop shout, “thank you!” I’m truly grateful you’re here, part of this Sunday morning community.

Each week when I send The Shift, I receive a copy, too. And last week, when it landed in my inbox, I paused and thought of you—yes, you—and this growing collective of amazing people spread across the U.S. and the world.

I shared that moment with my daughter, who goes to college in Maine. It reminded me of something we don’t talk about enough—connection that transcends distance.

There’s something magical about the Maine night sky. The stars shine brighter, like they’ve got something to say. This past year, most nights before bed, I’d let our beagle out, step onto the back stoop, look up, and send a quiet love message to her. A beam of energy between me and the stars. Between me and her.

That’s what this feels like each Sunday. A message. A moment. A connection.
So if you’ve been wondering if you’re seen, if you’re held, if someone out there is rooting for you, please know I am. I see you. I believe in you. And I’m here for you.

Now, let’s talk about something that doesn’t shout, yet speaks volumes: conviction.

Conviction is that calm, steady inner knowing. It’s not loud or boastful. And it doesn’t need to prove anything or convince anyone. It just is.

When you live with conviction, you don’t waste energy explaining or performing. You trust yourself, choose what matters, and move with clarity.

The tricky part about conviction is it doesn’t usually show up fully formed.

It builds. It grows.

It emerges when you choose to keep going, even when it would be easier to quit. It strengthens when you stand firm because it is completely aligned to who you are. It roots in you when you stop people-pleasing and start leading yourself toward who you want to be and who you’re becoming.

I’ve lived those early, shaky steps when you think something is right, but no one else quite gets it. And I’ve also felt the difference when that conviction takes root. When clarity sharpens. When decisions get easier. And when energy stops leaking into things that don’t matter.

That’s where I am now. By no means is it perfect or done, but it’s grounded.

And I can tell you that conviction simplifies your life and clarifies your time. It becomes a kind of internal compass that helps you say no, unapologetically, and yes, wholeheartedly.

Ideas to Ponder

  • Where in your life are you acting out of obligation instead of conviction?
  • What’s something you know is right for you, but you’re still hesitating to claim it?
  • How would your life feel if you stopped over-explaining and just started choosing?

🎯 1 Focus This Week

Practice acting from conviction.

Say no to what’s no longer aligned.

Say yes to something you’ve been quietly dreaming about.

Ask yourself, “If I could do anything right now, what would I love?”

Then take one small, intentional step toward it.

Conviction doesn’t need volume. It needs action, and even quiet steps echo powerfully.

I believe you are the most powerful leader you’ll ever know. One small shift, Reader, will help you believe it, too.

See you next Sunday.

Jenn

P.S. Forward this to someone who’s ready to stop second-guessing and start trusting their inner clarity. Sometimes all it takes is one small, grounded step to move powerfully forward.

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #030 - Why do we focus on what's wrong?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! You are not your shortcomings. So why do we spend so much energy focusing on them? I sent a beta version of my new 12 Principles of Self-Leadership Assessment to about 30 people—friends, former colleagues, and new connections in my entrepreneurial world. All high-achieving, successful professionals. And then my phone starts lighting up: “This question hit me hard.” “The report looks as polished as the big names.” “Holy sh*t… I feel like a failure.” “I...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #029 - What does bold feel like to you?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! I’m writing this from a small, bustling café in Watch Hill, glass of chilled white wine in hand, my husband across from me, and the (adult) kids wandering the shops. We’re on vacation, and yet my mind can’t help but come back to something I’ve been building. “I’m building The Bold Revolution,” I say out loud. He listens, then gently reminds me how hard building a business is. He doesn’t say this in a discouraging way; it’s in a way that says I see the...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #028 - Are you holding someone back?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! It’s Monday evening and I’m reading an article on breakthroughs. One woman shared a story about her judgment toward her friend group. An elite, extreme group of runners who train and compete at levels she couldn’t imagine. Her thought? “Why spend so much time pushing yourself that far? Take a break. Have fun. Add some joy.” Then she had a breakthrough. She realized her judgment wasn’t about them at all. It wasn’t because they didn’t hang out with her or...
