THE SUNDAY SHIFT: What does freedom look like for you?

Hi Reader,

Welcome to The Sunday Shift!

Let’s get right to it: What does freedom actually look like for you?

Not what you’ve been told or what looks good on paper—what does it feel like, in your life, on your terms?

For years, when I pictured freedom, it felt like a far-off dream. A beach house, time with friends and family, making a positive impact on the people who matter most. Did I waste time dreaming? No. That future vision pulled me forward. Conviction, courage, and choice got me here.

But for too long, I felt trapped. Shackled by my own habits and stories. Until one day, I had a V-8 moment (my R-rated commercial version):

“Fuck, it’s me! I’m the one shackling myself to this dismal life.”

I quit my creative outlets. I stopped exercising, eating well, and swapped water for vodka. I did what I “had” to do out of obligation; not choice. All for my 9-5 job—the one where I’d show up at 7AM, leave at 6 or 7PM, and sometimes log back on until midnight or later. It wasn’t the company—it was me, not setting healthy boundaries. When those hours became my normal, burnout wasn’t far behind. No job is worth losing yourself.

That day, I realized it was time to take control of what I could: my health, wealth, mental and spiritual well-being, my connections, my community. If something’s out of my control, I let it go. Not always easy, but always liberating.

And that’s what I did. Now, I don’t just long for freedom—I live in that feeling. It’s not perfect, but it’s better. So much better.

Ideas to Ponder

  • Where are you giving energy to things outside your control?
  • What would happen if you focused that energy on what you can influence—your habits, mindset, relationships, choices?

🎯 1 Focus This Week

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #030 - Why do we focus on what's wrong?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! You are not your shortcomings. So why do we spend so much energy focusing on them? I sent a beta version of my new 12 Principles of Self-Leadership Assessment to about 30 people—friends, former colleagues, and new connections in my entrepreneurial world. All high-achieving, successful professionals. And then my phone starts lighting up: “This question hit me hard.” “The report looks as polished as the big names.” “Holy sh*t… I feel like a failure.” “I...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #029 - What does bold feel like to you?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! I’m writing this from a small, bustling café in Watch Hill, glass of chilled white wine in hand, my husband across from me, and the (adult) kids wandering the shops. We’re on vacation, and yet my mind can’t help but come back to something I’ve been building. “I’m building The Bold Revolution,” I say out loud. He listens, then gently reminds me how hard building a business is. He doesn’t say this in a discouraging way; it’s in a way that says I see the...

THE SUNDAY SHIFT: #028 - Are you holding someone back?

Hi Reader, Welcome to The Sunday Shift! It’s Monday evening and I’m reading an article on breakthroughs. One woman shared a story about her judgment toward her friend group. An elite, extreme group of runners who train and compete at levels she couldn’t imagine. Her thought? “Why spend so much time pushing yourself that far? Take a break. Have fun. Add some joy.” Then she had a breakthrough. She realized her judgment wasn’t about them at all. It wasn’t because they didn’t hang out with her or...
